At present, the most widely used gypsum board in the world is still paper-based gypsum board. With the continuous progress of modern technology, new elements have been integrated into the traditional paper-based gypsum board, giving more advantages. Currently, paper-based gypsum boards on the market can be divided into four categories: ordinary, water resistant, fire-resistant, and moisture-proof. Do you know how to distinguish the quality of paper gypsum board? We can identify it through methods such as visual inspection, hand tapping, allowable size deviation, flatness and right angle deviation, and marking. Let's take a look at the detailed introduction below!

1、 Types and uses of paper gypsum board

1. Ordinary paper faced gypsum board

After applying putty to ordinary paper gypsum board, the surface is smooth. When indoor lighting is not strong, there will not be too much reflection. The paper surface color of ordinary gypsum board is generally ivory white core, gray paper surface, which is a more economical and common variety. Suitable for use in places without special requirements, where the continuous relative humidity does not exceed 65%. Due to price reasons, many people prefer to use 9.5mm thick ordinary paper faced gypsum board for ceiling or partition walls. However, due to the thinness and low strength of 9.5mm ordinary paper faced gypsum board, it is easy to deform under humid conditions. Therefore, it is recommended to choose gypsum board with a thickness of 12mm or more.

2. Waterproof paper faced gypsum board

Water resistant materials are very popular in any era, and water resistant gypsum board is a very useful water resistant material. Water resistant paper faced gypsum board refers to a water absorption rate of 5% when tested according to the American ASTM standard, which can be used in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. The core and protective paper of this board have undergone waterproof treatment and have a certain degree of water resistance. But in order to increase its service life, it is not allowed to be directly exposed to damp environments, nor to be soaked in water for a long time.

3. Refractory paper faced gypsum board

This type of board uses building gypsum as the main raw material, and its core is filled with refractory materials and a large amount of glass fibers. When exposed to fire, it can maintain the integrity of the building structure for a certain period of time, thereby delaying the collapse of the gypsum board, blocking the spread of fire, and extending the fire prevention time.

4. Moisture-proof gypsum board

Gypsum board is a board made mainly from building gypsum, with an appropriate amount of additives and fibers added as the board core, and specially made board paper as the protective surface. After processing, it has high surface moisture resistance and a surface water absorption rate of less than 160g/㎡. Moisture proof gypsum board is used for suspended ceilings, partition walls, and veneer walls in rooms with high environmental humidity. To avoid confusion between moisture-proof gypsum board and water-resistant gypsum board, the difference between them is that moisture-proof gypsum board only uses waterproof protective paper on the surface, while the protective paper and core of water-resistant gypsum board have been treated with waterproofing.

2、 How to identify the quality of paper-based gypsum board

1. Visual inspection

During the appearance inspection, a visual inspection of the front side of the board should be carried out under bright lighting conditions at a distance of 0.5m. First, the surface should be flat and smooth, without pores, stains, cracks, missing corners, uneven colors, or incomplete patterns. The upper and lower layers of protective paper on the paper faced gypsum board should be sturdy to prevent cracking and not damage the gypsum board when screwing in
